Nick Ansell joined Braemar as a Trainee Broker in 2020. A large proportion of his working day was spent on such essential tasks as updating ship positions, generating reports and creating tonnage lists. He also developed client relationships by providing vital market information to our customers.

Nick was promoted to a Broker in 2021 and began running his own accounts. He maintains a strong client relationship via regular communication and provides excellent insight on market information.

Nick has also built a strong relationship with his team and Line Manager, who are always there whenever he needs support. He receives regular feedback from his Manager and finds this role very enjoyable, rewarding and challenging at the same time, especially as the market fluctuates in relation to geopolitical issues as well as supply and demand.

Our well-organised working environment and supportive company culture facilitates effective communication with other teams across the business and helps Nick to achieve his goals.

Alexis Wan joined us with solid operations experience in the maritime industry. She initially joined Braemar as an Operator on the Dry Desk in 2020 and is now a Trainee Broker for the Dry Supramax desk.

As an Operator, Alexis’ job covers a wide range of roles and responsibilities, including overseeing the safe day-to-day operations of the vessels and solving any complex issues. The client-facing aspects of her role include dealing with charterers and owners pertaining to all fixtures activities to ensure the highest level of service delivery. This has honed Alexis’ interpersonal communication and relationship management skills while expanding her skill sets beyond the role of Operator.

Now, as our Trainee Broker on the Supramax desk, Alexis works in a fast-paced team that has versatile responsibilities. In addition to building relationships with clients, Alexis tapped into her extensive experience in order to source the best way to provide essential market information to the team and clients.

The dynamism of the role, coupled with an ever-changing market, sparks Alexis’ passion as a Broker. Braemar has a culture that supports knowledge sharing and career advancement. The company provides opportunities for Operators to develop their skill sets in order to prepare for a role as a Broker. Surrounded by seniors who are willing to share knowledge and provide guidance, Alexis finds herself constantly learning and growing.

Konstantin joined Braemar in 2017 as an Associate in the Hamburg office. He had interned with Braemar in 2016 after completing his BSc in Business Administration from the University of Bayreuth, Germany and then stayed in contact with us throughout his Master's degree.

After his traineeship with leading container tonnage provider Offen Group, he moved to Hamburg Süd in Chile where he worked in revenue management and then onto PwC Advisory in Hamburg in their maritime sector.

When choosing between job opportunities toward the end of his studies, Konstanin made it clear that he wanted to work in an ‘international’ environment with the opportunity to work abroad – both of which we could provide.

Konstantin was promoted to Vice President in 2019 and was offered a secondment in Singapore to establish Braemar’s Corporate Finance offer, transferring the knowledge he’d gained from the division’s HQ in Hamburg and facilitating strong cooperation and communication between the offices in Hamburg, London and Singapore. The move felt right, so he relocated in January 2020.

In Singapore, Konstantin primarily advises Asian shipowners, lenders and investors in capital raisings, restructurings and M&A in cross-border transactions. He is involved in projection origination as well as execution and collaborates directly with colleagues in Singapore and Europe. He also works in tandem with other global desks in the Offshore, Tankers and S&P sectors.

Jan-Torben joined Braemar as a Corporate Finance Intern in 2011, straight after finishing high school. His primary tasks involved working on market research and project support, e.g. creating business models and project presentations. He decided to study for a B.Sc. in Business Administration while working as an Analyst with us in order to combine theoretical content and practical experience in the maritime finance sector.

After his promotion to Associate, Jan-Torben took over the responsibility of project-related tasks covering restructuring and refinancing advice in the maritime industry. He also looked after project-related assignments in the area of operational ship management. From 2017-2022, he completed a part-time Master’s degree in Financial Management with Braemar.

In his current role as Vice President, Jan-Torben oversees company-related issues to project management and execution; one example of this would be the improvement of existing internal processes and tools.

He advises European maritime clients (shipowners, private-equity funds, banks, etc.) throughout all asset classes, with a special focus on M&A, refinancing and project structuring. He communicates regularly with colleagues placed throughout the entire Braemar Group.

After completing a Bachelor in Economics at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Aiko started her career as an Economist, spending nearly three years in the Energy and Commodities industry before joining Braemar in 2021.

As a Research Analyst on the Tankers desk, her role is geared toward analysing developments within the Commodity and Shipping industry and assessing their impact on the Tankers markets. Aiko finds the best ways to deploy the Tankers desk’s resources and harness her knowledge in the Commodity markets in order to manage tanker supply and demand forecasting models as well as produce data-based research reports.

With a passion for handling large data sets and piecing them together to form a bigger picture, Aiko works alongside like-minded and supportive individuals to provide essential market information to the team and clients. She enjoys watching how everyone in the team has different strengths and how their roles can complement one another.

Aiko enjoys working at Braemar for a multitude of reasons, including the diversity of the company, our great working environment, her interactions with colleagues and the ability to pursue new and exciting opportunities.

The dynamism of her role has made her journey with us even more fulfilling.

Owain joined the company as an Intern in 2017, working at our Research and S&P desks. During this period, Owain had the opportunity to gather knowledge on the shipping market, obtaining data information about buyers and their interests. He was also able to access various reports to gain a broader understanding of the shipping industry.

After completing his degree in International Relations, Owain was employed by us as a Trainee Broker for the S&P desk. He communicated with various clients on the phone to build his confidence and allow him to gain and share market information by asking questions about ship valuations and interested parties. He received hands-on training from his Desk Head, covering vessel positions, vessel databases, researching new competitors in the market and has been introduced to specifications of ship types, dry cargo and containers.

Once he was promoted to Broker, he was introduced to clients and encouraged to build trusted relationships. He managed his own accounts and built his own client base, updating customers with current information in the S&P world.

Owain feels that he is in a great working environment with a supportive and friendly team. The nature of his role can be fast-paced and varied at the same, which makes it exciting. It also involves global travel, during which Owain meets clients and finalises ship deliveries.
